The new BMX track at Hökarängen will be illuminated by state-of-the-art, energy-efficient lighting that Scanmast has been honoured to supply. By the summer of 2023, there will be an SM facility here, which is also equipped with electric car charging in the car park.
When the gravel football pitch at Hökarängens Idrottsplats was to be converted into a BMX track, Scanmast was commissioned by Lestra Entreprenad to organise the electrical installation.
- "We have supplied and installed lighting for both the track itself and the car park. We have also installed electric car charging for the car park and lighting for the walkway that runs around the facility," says Anders Karlsson, who is responsible for lighting at Scanmast.
A BMX track is by nature an area with a lot of hills and hilly terrain. This made it difficult to access the site by crane lorry and it looked like the masts would have to be flown out by helicopter. However, delays in the project meant that it was possible to access the mast foundations by crane lorry anyway.
- Projects like this have many parts and elements that have to work together. You have to be flexible and focus on what is the best solution here and now. That's one of our main strengths," says Anders Karlsson.

Flexible solutions that stay on budget
The car park associated with the BMX track has 8-metre poles with luminaires, but the track itself requires stronger light. There are 18-metre poles with luminaires that have a higher output and therefore provide a stronger light.
The project has been a so-called execution contract. Due to challenges with materials and products, the team at Scanmast and its partner Elektrobyrån i Hjo from Jönköping have had to demonstrate their flexibility and focus on solutions. In order to keep the customer's budget, they have had to look for other alternatives than what was specified in the design.
- It has been a challenge with many prescribed materials being difficult to obtain. In particular, long delivery times and high costs have been a problem. As a result, a large part of our job has also been to help find replacement materials and alternative products. This meant that we were able to fulfil the customer's wishes while keeping within budget," says Anders Karlsson.
