Field technician

As a field technician at Scanmast, Jennifer works with installing and commissioning equipment in masts and towers, a varied job where technology and practical work go hand in hand.
My work in the telecoms sector helps to improve coverage in Sweden and enable information to reach further and to more people.
A typical working day can consist of installing equipment, assembling indoor units and wiring and making sure everything works. Weather conditions are a constant challenge - strong winds can make rigging difficult, and snow and ice affect accessibility. The solution? Good dialogue with colleagues, project managers and operations support.
The most enjoyable part of my job is that I get to help solve problems, to see an assignment go from start to finish. The feeling of having done a good and correctly executed job, of having delivered something that works - it's incredibly rewarding.
Working at height places great demands on safety, and for Jennifer it is a matter of course to always follow Scanmast's safety principle: "Work safely or not at all!" The right equipment, thorough checks, close co-operation with the immediate team and clear communication are essential.
Jennifer and her colleagues use equipment such as friction winches to hoist equipment and cabling, and computers to configure and commission systems Technology is constantly evolving, so there are regular updates on new configurations and safety procedures. Jennifer also keeps up to date with training programmes and industry news.
She sees great development opportunities in the profession, both by taking on more advanced projects and specialising in different areas. So what is her advice to anyone thinking of becoming a field technician?
An interest in technology, a willingness to learn and a curiosity to develop are essential. It is also a clear advantage if you enjoy screwing and assembling. Ultimately, it's about daring to take the step and wanting to learn more. Dare to try! Give it a chance and see if it fits! I didn't even know if I was afraid of heights before I started.
